IMG_0037I opened my kiln yesterday after waiting ALLLL day, I was so excited to see the colour of my tiles. It had taken so long to pack the kiln one by one and ended up with about six shelves, I didnt count them (too hard) Anyway, all good and the colours are great, now all I have to do is put it all together and hope I have enough !!!!!

I took a trip to Perth yesterday with some friends to check out the photographic exhibition at the Art Gallery of W.A. It was called “Picturing New York” I was so looking forward to it. Guess what the Art Gallery as CLOSED !!!! They close on one day and it was Tuesday, can you believe it. I had no idea, so a two hour trip by car and train was nearly a waste of time. But luckily for friends we had a good laugh and went and did other things, shopping of course, and fossicking in shops. I found a beautiful pop-up shop which only had three days to go. The pop-up shop is a wonderful idea and becoming a very popular and senseable project for any town or city. This one had the most beautiful hand made products ranging from jewellery to fashion and arts and crafts, so well presented and each artisan spends a certain amount of time manning the shop and meeting the customers. What a great idea. Of course we ate as well and found some really good food outlets. So even though the day didnt turn out quite what we thought it was still good fun.

new mount for figures

new mount for figures

Today I have been using up the last of some terracotta that I’ve had for ages. I’ve made some great figures for mounting on wood and brick. Also I made more tiles for firing for the canvas piece I’m working on, as I didnt think I had enough for the whole frame. I enjoyed using up the terracotta as I dont use it very often, but you can certainly work slower as it dosnt dry out as quickly as porcelain. The figures will need to dry properly, so I will try to fire them on the weekend, so I can get on with glazing (YUK!!!!!) all the tiles. It will take forever to glaze and then to put them in the kiln one by one. I wish there was an easier way to fire them as I dont have alot of shelves, so it will have to be done in batches. If you can come up with a better idea, please email me and tell me PLEASE…

2013-02-16_09-59-08_405Well I did a rush trip to Albany on the weekend.  Its about a four hour drive from where I live but its a nicce drive.  I caught up with friends and did some scouting at the beaches.   The a place there where I can only get certain shells, so I took some icecream containers and filled up.  The sand down there is squeaky clean and so white, it hurts to look at it, so I bought some of that back as well for my resin work.  I shall give you a look when I set it out.  Beautiful bays and coves down there, colder than the South-West, but very nice and the coastline is fabulous as you can see.

Well I finally spent some quality time in my HOT studio yesterdayThe weather has been heat wave, high 30’s and even 40.  Not very nice to work in. Unfortunately my workshop is not air-conditioned, so I have been putting it off abit.  But I did get out there early and do some tiles I need for a wall piece using some shell molds that I have had for years.  In fact I should probably do some fresh ones but I like the old ones.  I did a whole board, not sure if it will be enough but I can always do more.  I also did some resin shapes that I want to include on my wall piece.  So just waiting for them to dry as well.

2013-02-10_12-50-09_98I had the pleasure of going to Perth on the weekend for a friends wedding and we stayed in Fremantle, the next morning while everyone slept off the night before I ventured out on a very HOT day to walk to the Fremantle Art Gallery to see what was on. Luckily its not a long walk and they had a lovely exhibition but for me I think its always the building itself that inspires me and makes me feel very humble. If you didnt know it used to be in the early days a mental asylum and even though its peaceful now I think there are alot of ghosts still wandering about. They have a lovely garden with a cafe where you can relax and I really enjoyed myself. Back to work tomorrow though as I am behind with my work, but it is so hot to go into my studio which isnt air conditioned, but I must make the effort…..
