Some scenes from the Pilbara, a vast area in the North of Western Australia. Its beauty is staggering and the colours will blow you away.
There are certain times of the year that are better to visit than others because of the heat and also if you go just after the rains you will find everything green and lush and the waterholes full. Its worth travelling the distances just to see these isolated places. These photos were taken near Parraburdoo which is a mining town. You can get a permit to drive the road which runs along the railway line which carries the iron ore to Dampier. The trip is worth it and takes about 4 or 5 hours, but the road is good as its looked after by Rio Tinto. You end up on bitumen for about the last 2 hours before you hit Karratha.
There is so much to explore up there but the area is so big it can take forever. My next trip up there I want to walk some of the Karajini George which is just outside Tom Price. The girl in the photo is my daughter who actually got up close enough to pat one of the wild horses, shes lucky she didnt get nipped!!!
