5th January…..

So hot here in The South-West, it’s so hot today that I can’t go into the workshop as I have a metal roof and it’s like being in a slow cooker. So work today has come to a standstill. Still I wouldn’t be able to roll any clay with this heat!!!

I always look out for unusual marks or patterns that we can find in nature and these two are a perfect example of the beauty to be found if you just have a look around.  This a form of lichen on some beach rocks but what interests me is not what it is but rather the great shapes that nature has made.  I think people must think i’m a bit strange so I don’t go around discussing these little hobbies that I have!!   Rocks, sticks, bone, shells, wire  anything can become a fascinating adventure in my strange mind.  A lot of the things that I do find of course become incorporated within my art as you can see by the ceramic pieces that I make.  Sometimes that is the best part about being a fossicker, is finding the next thing you are going to use in a piece and knowing as soon as you see it what it will be used for!!!   So next time you throw away that tin of rusty bits & pieces when you are having a clean out, think of me!!!!  I would have loved that!!!

IMG_0646Ive had a busy day in my workshop, working on various follow up jobs, those horrible jobs that need to be attended to, an added piece or some sort of finishing off that didnt get done and has sat there for some time. Thats me, leave them all to do in one day. Yuk!!! But of course there were bonuses (is that a word !!) because now I can start all the new things in my head without feeling guilty about the unfinished jobs.

A Day at the Beach….

Today I went to the beach for the first swim of summer. It was pretty fresh but really good. I swam and even dived under the waves for about an hour and then went for a little fossick along the beach and picked up some treasures. I didnt go very well organised though as I didnt have a bag and had to use my hat.!! Oh well it was worth it and hopefully there will be more days like it as the weather improves. Afterwards I went to a exhibition at the Stirling St. Art Centre by the Studio Potters. It is there annual exbo and was really well presented for a small group. They had some beautiful pieces all for sale, so of course I bought a piece but I cant pick it up till the exbo finishes. I will show you then.
